Welcome to BrightOnes, the weird little podcast where we sniff out uplifting and often under reported news! You know what to do... let's start sniffing! Whether you’re conservative, liberal, independent, or just politically exhausted the news cycle and link bait makes you tired enough to stay in your designer Eddie Bauer dog bed! However, even though we don't like that news is all about viral moments and misleading headlines, yes even ours, there’s something genuinely interesting happening right now with Stephen Colbert launching his own YouTube channel after leaving network television. And honestly? This story matters way beyond politics. It's about free speech! If speech only exists for people we agree with, then it’s not really freedom. It’s just a fan club with stricter lighting. For decades, comedians, journalists, and creators needed giant corporations to endorse who got a microphone. Stephen posted clips to a public access style show called "Only in Monroe" and immediately started getting copyright takedowns. Now to be fair, copyright law absolutely matters. Creators deserve ownership of their work. But the public reaction showed something deeper brewing underneath all this. People are hungry for spaces where creativity, criticism, comedy, parody, and weird experimental ideas can exist without everything being filtered through giant media systems chasing outrage clicks. That’s not a left-wing idea or a right-wing idea. That’s a human idea. A free society only works when people can openly talk, joke, criticize, disagree, and create without fear that every uncomfortable opinion gets erased the second somebody powerful dislikes it. Until next time keep free speech free, keep being weird and like me try to be a good boy WOOF!
